The Back At Work Program™ is a proactive, field-tested, system that has proven 40% to 96% effective in eliminating or reducing the costs associated with musculoskeletal disorders, strains and sprains (MSDs). MSDs comprise 899,400 (46%) of the 1,664,000 non-fatal injuries requiring time away from work and cost American business over one hundred fifteen billion dollars in direct and indirect costs. Dr. Stephen Grennan, D.C., a leading Occupational Biomechanic, pioneered this system that provides workers with the tools and techniques they need to avoid injuries. Back At Work Program™ participants are injured much less frequently and less severely than do their co-workers who do not participate. Many Back At Work customers have seen over a 70% drop in MSD-related injuries and costs within a six month period.
Preparing The Industrial Athlete™
Just as the health of the professional athlete influences their team's success, the health of your workers, your "industrial athletes," determine if you will win or lose the day. The purpose of the Back At Work Program™ is summarized in our mission: "Preparing The Industrial Athlete™" Your industrial athletes are your company's most valuable assets. The Back At Work Program™ keeps them off the bench and on the field of play.
How The Back At Work Program™ Works
Injury Reduction Through Proper Body Preparation
Hundreds of research studies have proven that unprepared muscles and joints are significantly more prone to injury than those that have not been prepared for the task to be performed. This is why sports coaches from grade school to the pros, stress the importance of preparing their body by stretching and strengthening the specific joint and muscle regions likely to be used and injured on the field of play.
The same principle applies to the men and women that comprise your workforce. Your "industrial athletes" also need to prepare the muscle and joint regions that are stressed when performing their specific job-related tasks. Research has also demonstrated that this preparation is most effective when stretching and strengthening techniques are tailored to the individual worker and to their unique mix of job tasks.
Tailored To Individuals and Their Unique Job Tasks
No two people are exactly alike. Each can be doing the same job, in the same place, at the same time, yet experience vastly different problems and physical discomfort. A comprehensive program for preventing MSD injuries must be personalized and based on personal interaction with and examinations by Back At Work professionals. Our programs are fine-tuned to create the greatest benefit for the worker and the greatest cost savings for the employer.
Back At Work is not an Exercise Program
The Back At Work Program™ is a proactive, field-tested, system designed to reducing the incidence and severity of job-related MSDs. It was not designed as, nor is it a substitute for a fitness or exercise program. However, many of our clients have found that their freedom from discomfort and increased range of motion made it possible to engage in other enjoyable and healthful activities.
